Many people have a tendency to think about healthy behaviors in black-and-white extremes: chocolate is bad, carrots are good; missing a few daily walks means you’ve fallen off the wagon; a scale that won’t budge means your health is spiraling out of control. This distorted thinking pattern may harm your efforts to improve your health because small setbacks may cause you to feel defeated, down and ready to give up. Here are some tips for keeping a positive long-view perspective.

Whenever I talk to ADA student members, I always stress the importance of enrolling in the no-cost ADA student members disability insurance as soon as possible. I’ve been working as an Insurance Plan Specialist for Great-West Financial long enough to know that having disability coverage while you’re in dental school is one of the most important ways you can help protect your future.
There are countless ways you could become disabled. Fall off your bike and break your leg. Slip on the ice and injure your back. A skiing accident could end your career as a dentist. You could also be diagnosed with an illness, such as cancer, that could force you to interrupt your education.
As a Great-West Financial Insurance Plan Specialist, one of my most important responsibilities is helping ADA student members understand the importance of life insurance.
I understand — when your future is so full of promise, it’s hard to think about the possibility of dying. Yet, as someone who has worked with dentists of all ages, I can tell you, bad things do happen, even to dental students. I know some of you have experienced this firsthand.
Tell us who you love for a chance to win $500! February is the month of Valentine’s Day, the holiday of love. At Great-West Financial®, the underwriter of ADA Members Insurance Plans, we want to give you the chance to win a Valentine’s gift that’s even better than chocolate (now that’s saying something). By telling us who you love in 100 words or less, you’ll be entered in a contest and have a chance to win!
Of all the “tests” you’ll face as you become a dentist, choosing the disability and life insurance coverage that’s right for you may be one of the more challenging. There are no textbooks on the subject. So to help you study up, we put together a checklist that provides some of the key features you should look for when buying insurance, and how the ADA members insurance plans stack up to the competition.
