From a young age, Chris Bashinelli wanted to be an actor. He attended a performing arts school and was cast in a role on the HBO series “The Sopranos.” Not long after, he realized that acting wasn’t his passion. He followed his true calling to become an explorer and storyteller, filming documentaries about the hidden corners of our world and using media to bridge intercultural gaps.
“How I began was by making a decision, committing to my ultimate purpose and not looking back no matter how many hurdles I encountered,” he tells National Geographic. Read on to learn more about ASDA’s keynote speaker for Annual Session 2016.
Coming to Boston for the first time for ASDA Annual Session 2015? Never experienced a New England winter before? You are probably wondering what to expect!
Boston is an awesome city with so many historical sites, touristy attractions, and local eateries worth checking out. We have compiled a list of tips submitted by Boston dental students.
On behalf of ASDA’s Editorial Board, I’d like to thank all the authors and bloggers who contributed to ASDA in 2014. Thank you for your time, your ideas and your contribution to the organization. It’s because of volunteers like you that we are able to build a knowledge-base for dental students in the U.S. And it’s because of you that ASDA News was found to be members’ favorite ASDA publication in a 2014 readership survey!
ASDA’s Editorial Board sifted through all the articles and blog posts of 2014 to narrow down nominees for three Gold Crown Awards: Best News Article, Best Feature Article and Best Blog Post. Criteria included relevance, originality, research and presentation. For blog posts, number of visits, social shares and Facebook likes were also weighed in the decision. Here are the nominees for the 2015 Gold Crown Awards for best articles and blog post …
With Annual Session 2015 is closely approaching, you are probably thinking about what lab work you have to finish up before you go (those crowns won’t prep themselves), what dapper outfits to pack (a suit a day keeps the fashion police away) and what Boston sights to see (I recommend Boston Public Gardens, Newbury Street and Fenway Park). However, if this is your first ASDA trip, you may have some questions about how to prepare for your trip. So here are my top 5 tips to help you get the most out of “the best week ever.”
As you may already know, this blog is run by the American Student Dental Association. A little history lesson: ASDA is the largest student-run organization dedicated to protecting and advancing the rights, interests and welfare of dental students like you. Currently, there are 20,000+ dental student members and 1,800+ predental members. Each year, ASDA holds a national meeting called Annual Session. 2015 will mark ASDA’s 45th Annual Session!
If you are interested in networking with other future dentists, learning about professional issues and getting involved in organized dentistry, sign up to attend ASDA’s Annual Session at the Westin Boston Waterfront, Feb. 18-21, 2015.
If you’ve visited ASDA’s website recently, you may have noticed that we’ve been counting down to today for quite a while. That’s because it’s the first day of Annual Session 2014, also known as “the best week ever.” But what makes this meeting so special? Is it the networking, the keynote speaker and other educational sessions, the exhibit fair or the President’s Gala? The answer is D. All of the above.
Annual session is a great environment to reconnect with what you enjoy most about the profession. Whether you made it to Annual Session 2014 or not, read on for how to make the most of a professional meeting.
The Gold Crown Awards include several categories and more than 45 awards. One section of awards is completely dedicated to media. These awards recognize chapter newsletters, websites and social media but they also recognize the articles members contribute to ASDA’s national publications as well. ASDA News and Mouth are rare among association publications. Many associations hire professionals to write their news and magazine but ASDA finds value in representing the dental student voice by soliciting volunteers to write nearly all of the content in ASDA News and Mouth (and this blog!). Read on to see the nominees for best news and feature article of the year.
