Memorial Day means a lot of things. It means a 3 day weekend from work or school. It’s an unofficial mark to the beginning of summer. And it almost always means invitations to cookouts and pool parties. But most importantly, Memorial Day is meant for everyone enjoying the freedom and prosperity of the U.S. to pause and reflect on the military lives that make this life possible. No matter which political party you align with, no matter if the Dow is up or down, men and women fought and died for the this country so that the simple pleasures we enjoy are possible. ASDA would like to thank all of the men and women who are serving and have served the United States.
If you’re in dental school, the military has no doubt crossed your mind. You may be dwelling on the massive amounts of debt you’ve accumulated and the military is good option when it comes to lightening the load. Many ASDA students are in the military and plan to practice in the military or enter military specialty programs after graduation. Don’t hesitate to ask them about their decision and what their experience has been like. If you’d like a day-to-day account of an Army dentist’s life, check out Major Kendall Mower’s blog at Army Strong Stories. Dr. Mower shared his experience as an Army dentist in last year’s November issue of ASDA News. He updates his blog with the specific cases he sees each day, details about the team atmosphere on an Army base and how to juggle family life at the same time. Dr. Mower’s blog is a good start if you’re at all curious what it would be like to practice on an Army base.
Feel free to discuss the option of becoming a military dentist in the comments section below. In observance of the holiday, next Monday’s post will not go live until Tuesday. Don’t forget to check back on Wednesday for the next installment in our series: The [ASDA Central] Office. Next week’s staff profile is Director of Communications and Operations, Jen Swanson. And of course, the only way to keep up with Mouthing Off is to subscribe! Have a wonderful weekend.
