While over 360 dental students had planned to lobby in Washington, DC this year, Mother Nature had other plans. Record snowstorms blasted the DC region and only 160 dental students were able to make it to the meeting. Although the Federal government closed both days of the meeting, training sessions and speakers still went ahead as scheduled. The Board of Trustees had to make a decision whether or not to cancel the meeting and using the best information available at the time, they decided to go ahead with Lobby Day.
Although this year’s Lobby Day was lacking in actual lobbying, the students who were able to attend the meeting showed the utmost dedication to ASDA as well as the dental profession as a whole. The Central Office staff was equally surprised at the record snowstorms. Executive Assistant, Kris Okoskey remarked on the event:
As Chicagoans, we’re used to snowfall in the double digits. But we weren’t prepared for how debilitating it was going to be for the Nation’s capital.
