Forget jingle bells, 2011 will usher in new school bells for dental students across the country. By the time the summer heat is starting to fade and college football fever is picking up, three new dental schools will be opening their doors. August 2011 means the advent of the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine, Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois, and the University of Southern Nevada, College of Dental Medicine. ECU, a constituent member of The University of North Carolina, is located in Greenville, North Carolina and stands as North Carolina’s second dental school. Moving west, the Midwestern University College of Dental Medicine-Illinois will host 125 students for their inaugural class. MWU-CDMI, situated west of Chicago in Downers Grove, IL joins the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in the state of Illinois. Finally, the University of Southern Nevada, College of Dental Medicine (USNCDM) expects to admit its first class in the fall of 2011 at USN’s South Jordan, Utah campus. Their DMD program will be first dental curriculum in the state of Utah.
