There is no such thing as a free lunch

doorway ASDA blogOne of the most well-known ideas in the business world is: “There is no such thing as a free lunch.” What this really means is that when you decide to do something, there is always something that you could have done instead, but chose not to. The “thing you could have done” is a lost opportunity. You gave up something to do or get something else. This idea is known as “opportunity cost.” Read on to find out how opportunity cost can effect your financial future.

Indiana University ASDA chapter “adopts a family” for the holidays

cartWhile other D2s, preparing for boards, would not even consider leaving their halls without their dental decks, members of the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s ASDA chapter have taken time out to deck the halls of a local family in need. Working in conjunction with the Marion County Department of Child Services, IU ASDA’s Community Service Coordinator, Sonia Dhingra spearheaded an effort to provide assistance for members of the community who, without the efforts of numerous organizations throughout the greater Indianapolis area, would have gone without this holiday season.

How President Clinton gave me perspective on dental school

Clinton_kedyA few months ago, I had the chance to attend the ADA’s Annual Session in the exciting city of New Orleans! Like ASDA’s Annual Session, this was an opportunity to attend CE classes, explore the enormous vendor exhibition and network with dental professionals from across the country. Exploring the city after hours was a chance to sample the fantastic food, listen to some great music and experience Halloween on Bourbon Street. But for me, the standout experience of the trip was seeing President Bill Clinton speak! Read on for Kedy’s takeaways from Clinton’s keynote address.

The Gold Crown Awards include several categories and more than 45 awards. One section of awards is completely dedicated to media. These awards recognize chapter newsletters, websites and social media but they also recognize the articles members contribute to ASDA’s national publications as well. ASDA News and Mouth are rare among association publications. Many associations hire professionals to write their news and magazine but ASDA finds value in representing the dental student voice by soliciting volunteers to write nearly all of the content in ASDA News and Mouth (and this blog!). Read on to see the nominees for best news and feature article of the year.
