Research, research, research! Whether or not you’re involved in it, research is an integral part of the advancement of dentistry. Many dental student researchers dream of presenting their work at large conferences hosted by the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) or the ADA. Yet, if you’re a first-time presenter, competitive conferences can be intimating.
Where can you gain the confidence and experience to become a polished public speaker? ASDA’s first ever Poster Session at Annual Session in Minneapolis, that’s where!
Practice sharing your research in a low-pressure, informal setting and receive individualized feedback on how to improve your poster organization, design and verbal presentation. While you’re at it, you’ll connect with other student researchers and walk away with a great accomplishment to add onto your resume.
ASDA’s Poster Session judging panel consists of faculty from Minnesota School of Dentistry, a National Student Research Group member and an executive committee member, so you’re going to get a well-rounded perspective. The top three poster winners will be published in ASDA publications and a “Student Choice Award” will also be given. It’s really a chance for us small researchers to get our feet wet!
ASDA has provided some great tips when preparing your poster – you can view them here along with registration info. Submit your poster session abstract and show us what you have been up to.
One last note: conferences like IADR’s require novel research (a.k.a. never been presented anywhere else before), so whatever you present at Annual Session can’t be presented again. On the flip side, ASDA does not require you to present original research!
