Loma Linda students find meaning in volunteer clinic

photo2 For myself and about five others in my class at Loma Linda dental school, service has become an addiction. In Redlands, California, about ten minutes away from school, there is a free dental clinic that has serious impact on the underserved, some that come from as far away as Temecula, about an hour drive. One year later: lessons we learned about becoming auto-enroll

150132_3832698421233_1094973017_nAs ASDA leaders, we all want to convince our administrations to automatically enroll all students with an ASDA and ADA student membership from day one. This means students’ ASDA/ADA membership is paid for as part of tuition and fees or by the dental school rather than out of a students’ personal budget. The result is a student body that are all members and can participate in events, serve as chapter leaders and spend time planning events instead of recruiting students to join.

Indiana University ASDA chapter “adopts a family” for the holidays

cartWhile other D2s, preparing for boards, would not even consider leaving their halls without their dental decks, members of the Indiana University School of Dentistry’s ASDA chapter have taken time out to deck the halls of a local family in need. Working in conjunction with the Marion County Department of Child Services, IU ASDA’s Community Service Coordinator, Sonia Dhingra spearheaded an effort to provide assistance for members of the community who, without the efforts of numerous organizations throughout the greater Indianapolis area, would have gone without this holiday season.
