Five reasons you can’t miss NLC

ASDA National Leadership Conference Chicago 2014

The premier leadership training opportunity for dental students is quickly approaching! ASDA’s National Leadership Conference (NLC) is taking place October 30th-November 1st in Chicago and it is an unparalleled opportunity for students. Here are five reasons you do not want to miss NLC this year:

5. Networking

NLC provides a multitude of opportunities to work on your networking skills. Attend the Meet and Greet with National Leaders to learn about leadership opportunities within ASDA. The Dental Expo allows you to meet and network with a variety of representatives across the dental industry, forming relationships that will benefit you far beyond dental school. Additionally, there are plenty of networking breaks to get to know your peers, share ideas, and form lasting relationships across the country.

4. Career Planning and Business & Financial Leadership Education

Want more information on Residencies? Private practice? Group or Corporate settings? How about tips on How Not to Fail Miserably in Private Practice, or Creating Your Own Personal Brand? There are sessions on these topics and so much more, including a chapter session on how to easily create top quality videos for your chapter (or future practice) to use! You’ll also have the opportunity to learn how to polish up your CV and land that dream job or residency!

3. Training in Advocacy & Professional Issues and Chapter Leadership & Management

This year is jam packed with remarkable sessions. From information on developing your Chapter’s vision to using Parliamentary Procedure to run effective chapter meetings, there are awesome sessions to help you better manage your chapter. There are also great presentations coming on Ethics in Dental School, Effectively Communicating with your Patients, and Battling Misinformation with Science so you will be evermore prepared as you continue through dental school and beyond.

2. Phenomenal Keynote Speakers

NLC promises to be inspiring with phenomenal keynote speakers throughout the weekend. Carey Lohrenz is a former Lieutenant in the United States Navy who was the first fully qualified female naval aviator to fly the F-14 Tomcat in the United States Military. Carey inspires Fearless Leadership and is sure to get you fired up about your leadership. Dr. Tasha Eurich has dedicated her life’s work to make leaders AWESOME, and over the last 15 years, she’s helped thousands transform. She will deliver tools necessary to amp up and sustain your leadership skills. Jia Jiang is ready to help you bust through your fears, pass through rejection, and accomplish empowered courage in your leadership. Each of these is a definite “do not miss!”

1. Leadership Development

It is no secret that success in dentistry requires good, strong leadership skills, however these skills are not regularly part of your dental curriculum. Dental school will teach you to be a phenomenal clinician. You have to develop yourself into a phenomenal leader. NLC offers you the opportunity for an unforgettable weekend of leadership training that you will not regret attending. I can’t wait to see you there!
