Five things I wish I’d known before getting into clinic

Graduating from the preclinical labs to the predoctoral clinic brought a lot of anxiety and the unexpected. The experience has been very rewarding though I wish I’d known a few little nuggets beforehand that would have made the transition smoother. Here are a few tidbits that have helped me the past two years in clinic. I hope they can be beneficial to you as well!

Jay Banez is one of ASDA's electronic editors. Originally from Las Vegas, Jay is a D4 at Marquette School of Dentistry. Jay is also the Media & Communications Chair for #MarquetteASDA. You can catch him walking around school occasionally with his camera in hand, posting to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. These efforts helped lead Marquette to its Ideal ASDA Chapter title at the 2014 Gold Crown Awards.

    Liked your video making skills Jay! Having finished dental school in my home country, I can say that “befriending your faculty” is the key to clinical success while in dental school and after. Good job!

  2. Thank you for this video @Jay Banez. During your check-up, the dentist or dental hygienist will also perform a head and neck examination, assess the health of your gums, and look at your mouth for signs for other issues such as oral cancer or a vitamin deficiency.
