Today’s Mingle Monday features Josh Lord from the Michigan Dental Association. Josh spoke this past fall at ASDA’s National Leadership Conference. He talked to dental students about how networking can be an instrument to further your career. One of Josh’s recommendations is to go on informational interviews to get in front of the people who can help advance your career. Watch this video for more on informational interviews and how to conduct one.
A few months ago, I had the chance to attend the ADA’s Annual Session in the exciting city of New Orleans! Like ASDA’s Annual Session, this was an opportunity to attend CE classes, explore the enormous vendor exhibition and network with dental professionals from across the country. Exploring the city after hours was a chance to sample the fantastic food, listen to some great music and experience Halloween on Bourbon Street. But for me, the standout experience of the trip was seeing President Bill Clinton speak! Read on for Kedy’s takeaways from Clinton’s keynote address.
The Gold Crown Awards include several categories and more than 45 awards. One section of awards is completely dedicated to media. These awards recognize chapter newsletters, websites and social media but they also recognize the articles members contribute to ASDA’s national publications as well. ASDA News and Mouth are rare among association publications. Many associations hire professionals to write their news and magazine but ASDA finds value in representing the dental student voice by soliciting volunteers to write nearly all of the content in ASDA News and Mouth (and this blog!). Read on to see the nominees for best news and feature article of the year.
Pictured here is the model for a virtual dental home concept at the University of Pacific School of Dentistry. Using cloud technology, the university is able to manage a program that delivers care to virtual dental homes for traditionally underserved populations. You can read more about this program in the winter issue of Mouth, available online now.
Is teledentistry and the virtual dental home the future of dentistry? While only time will tell, this model serves as an attempt to address dentistry’s barriers to care issue. But before we can look into its efficacy, we are faced with the question: Is this model ethical?
We’ve all been there. Sitting through what seems like an agonizing high school civics class when it happens. The projector screen rolls down, and the famous School House Rock episode “I’m just a bill on Capitol Hill” starts to play. Even though most educational materials from 1974 belongs in either a museum or an episode of the Wonder Years, I think this one is worth keeping around.
As Annual Session 2014 draws nearer, I want everyone to think about how ASDA’s policies can more reflect YOUR voice, the member voice. Read on to find out how to get your resolution to Disneyland.
Happy New Year! Read on for 10 ways that ASDA made a difference in the lives of dental students this past year. Comment on this post and tell us what you’d like from ASDA in 2014.
