4 things (about money) they don’t teach you in dental school

Infographic: Are tattoos appropriate in dentistry?

tattoo-infographicI spent many Sunday mornings this summer soaking up sun rays at a local restaurant eating brunch in my tank top and Ray Bans. I’ve gotten to know a few of the locals who frequent the same restaurant. While sipping my morning Joe and catching up on social media, stories about life were shared. How dentistry in the U.S. differs from India

539024537I have done BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) from India. Which requires 4 years of classroom training and one year of externship. In addition to that, I have practiced dentistry in private setting for a year and that has helped me understand dentistry from both academic as well as professional point of view. After moving to the United States, I wanted to pursue the same path and for that it was very necessary to understand how dentistry is being practiced here. I was lucky enough to get several volunteering and shadowing opportunities and learn about dental practices in the US. I gained invaluable experience and it strengthened my decision to pursue dentistry here. In the process, I also observed some of the differences in dental practices between the two countries.

Botox is probably one of the first remedies that comes to mind as a solution to the effects of aging. And if you think you’re alone in the stress of aging, you’re wrong! The demand for cosmetic procedures and surgery has skyrocketed in the past decade. According to a review by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, “Botox injections jumped 700 percent since 2000”. Wouldn’t it be great if patient acceptance of dental treatment jumped by those statistics?

But what does this have to do with dentistry?
