Attending the Dental Expo at a national ASDA event is an exciting time for anyone: free samples, free bags and enough free pens to last you until you graduate dental school. Aside from the swag, there are also opportunities for your chapter and to make professional connections.
Send us your financial questions
Next month, some of us will meet at the National Leadership Conference in Chicago. We will talk about student debt, interest rates and options for managing your debt. Because dental school tuition costs have been on the significant rise in recent years, more students than ever are graduating with very high amounts of debt. While standard ten year repayment is still the primary option for those in repayment, other options are gaining appeal. These include income based repayment and refinancing. We will discuss the options available when you graduate and which options make sense in different circumstances.
What are some questions that you would like addressed during this session?
Five reasons you can’t miss NLC
The premier leadership training opportunity for dental students is quickly approaching! ASDA’s National Leadership Conference (NLC) is taking place October 30th-November 1st in Chicago and it is an unparalleled opportunity for students. Here are five reasons you do not want to miss NLC this year:
Leadership through self-help books
I’m a big fan of self-help books. I’m not talking about “Golf For Dummies” but just good old nonfiction reads. Whether it’s financial or marital advice (“5 Love Languages” anyone?), I really believe that you can find answers to most your problems in books. Is a book as effective as a financial adviser, maybe not; but it’s a lot less expensive.
So whether or not you’re currently attending ASDA’s National Leadership Conference in Chicago this weekend, you can still gain a lot of leadership insights just from picking up some reading material. Yes, you’ll have to put down the study guides and textbooks for a minute, but the break from dentistry might do you some good.
Read on for a list of leadership reads that can set you on the path to success in dental school and beyond.
How to introduce yourself to a speaker
In this month’s Mingle Monday we’re building off of Friday’s suggestion to attend ASDA’s National Leadership Conference. Whether you’re at an ASDA meeting or a CE session or a networking event, you’ll probably run into a situation where you’d like to meet the person who just spoke at an event. It can be intimidating to introduce yourself to a speaker, but the benefits make it more than worthwhile. I made this video while working as an extern in ASDA’s national office this summer. These tips have helped me gain valuable contacts and enhance my network–I hope they help you too.
